  13. If I just want to quickly calculate the tip without all the bells and whistles, how do I do that?
  14. Please visit the video section to view the feature "Simple Tutorial". If that is not possible, the following explanation will suffice. Simply enter the number of diners, tip percentage, bill amount and tap "calculate" at the bottom of the start screen. If the tip amount is desired simple click on the bill or individual dinner icons to view.

  15. I checked the percentage tip and its wrong! How can that be?
  16. Please check under the "preferences" menu if you are paying pre-tax or post tax and that the tax you are currently using is appropriate for your location. The bill tip amount will always be correct within a 1/2 cent of the mathematical percentage amount.

  17. What if one or more people wish to pay for extra items that others are unwilling to pay for?
  18. Please visit the video section to view the feature "Advanced Tutorial". If that is not possible, the following explanation will suffice. This explanation assumes that the default preferences haven't changed the way the "special" and "nopay" dinner are used. First enter the number of diners, tip percentage and bill amount in the main View. To have specific diners pay for special items (alchohol, desserts, etc) simply tap and hold on a diner icon for 2 seconds to open the "special dinner" View. This now allows the user to change the name from a default value (to keep track of multiple dinners) and add up to 5 different items that this diner wishes to pay in addition to the normal split bill. Pressing the "return" button at the bottom of the View will return the user to the main View. This can now be repeated for additional diners. When this process is complete tap once on the "calculate" button at the bottom middle of the main View and the bill will be available.

  19. How do I email the bill?
  20. After the "calculate" button on the Main View has been tapped the user is brought to the Calculate View. The Calculate View presents the user with the "email" button at the bottom middle of the View. Tapping the "email" button will open an email form within Tip Executive that allows access to the users contacts list. The email form will append the bill breakdown into the "body" section. If the user wishes to add more text to the "body" section or add additional email recipients that is also possible. The email also has the ability to attach a photo of the bill. If a photo is attached the user will have to wait several seconds for it to attach. After the send button is tapped the user can return to the Calculate View.

  21. Why and how would I take a photo of the bill?
  22. Taking a photo of the bill is very useful for business users who expense or simply need to keep track of the dinners they pay for. The photo method is used in conjunction with the email option so that the photo of the bill can be attached to an email and sent both to your own email account and to that of the users executive assistant for expense reports. This removes the need to carry around many different receipts for a business trip.

  23. What if the tip is already included in the bill, what do I do then?
  24. If the tip is already included in the bill simply set the tip percentage to "0.00" on the Main View.

  25. What if different people want to pay different tip percentages?
  26. This was a difficult decision to make, but Tip Executive does not support this functionality. The decision to allow only 1 group tip percentage was decided upon to keep Tip Executive streamlined and allow quick calculation of the bill.

  27. Does Tip Executive employ the "round up" or "round down" functionality?
  28. Tip Executive does not employ the "round up" or "round down" functionality in favor of a more sophisticated method of solving this problem. The problem is that of splitting the bill equally when it is not possible. An example of this is a bill of $10 split evenly among 3 people. Ideally each person would pay $3.3333333(3's repeating infinitly). Since each person can only pay in increments of whole pennies the previous, albeit mathematically correct amount, is not payable. Thus there are five options to address this problem 1) Round-closest 2) Round-Up, 3) Round-Down, 4) Truncate and 5) Tip Executive method. If this amount is round-closest then each person is paying $3.33 and the total bill is now off by 1 cent. If this amount is rounded up, then each person pays $3.34 and the diners are overpaying by 2 cents ($10.02). If this amount is rounded down then each person is paying $3.33 and the total bill is now off by 1 cent ($9.99). In the case of small parties it is not a terrible thing to be incorrect by severals cents. However with larger groups the previous methods can put the amount to be payed off by up to a dollar. Since the amount with the previous methods can be off by up to a dollar and yet the bill must be payed exactly (unless overtipping is used) then the user would have to figure out how to apportion the extra amount. This defeats the whole purpose of having a tip calculator.

The Tip Executive method does not suffer from this problem. The Tip Executive method is never off on the total amount by more than 1/2 a cent, which is as close as is mathematically possible. Tip Executive accomplishes this by selected certain diners to pay more or less than others by at most a penny so that the total bill is correct.
